Radio Calls — Coldstream & Other Non-Towered Aerodromes

Radio calls consist of discrete parts (in this order):

  1. Who you are addressing.
  2. Who you are – aircraft type and callsign.
  3. Where you are – ground position.
  4. Your altitude.
  5. Your intentions.
  6. Your operating location (just "Coldstream" not "Coldstream traffic").

Taxiing (expected*)

Coldstream traffic, Warrior, Mike Sierra Golf, Taxiing for (destination or intention) circuits/training area, (runway) one seven/three five Coldstream.

Entering the runway (expected*)

Coldstream traffic, Warrior, Mike Sierra Golf Entering and rolling (runway) one seven for circuits Coldstream.
Note: We normally enter the runway to "roll" — this refers to the take-off roll. But we could also enter the runway to back-track (use it as a taxiway), or to hold because we are not yet ready to take off.

Outbound (Coldstream requirement)

Coldstream traffic, Warrior, Mike Sierra Golf, (position) over the top/two miles south (level) two thousand, (intentions) tracking south west, from Coldstream.

Inbound (expected*)

Yarra Valley traffic, Warrior, Mike Sierra Golf (position) one zero south west, (level) two thousand, (intentions) inbound Coldstream.

About to join circuit (expected*)

Coldstream traffic, Warrior, Mike Sierra Golf, (position) three miles south/over the top, (level) one thousand five hundred, (intentions) joining downwind/upwind/crosswind (runway) one seven Coldstream.

Base turn (Coldstream requirement)

Downwind and final calls not needed unless considered reasonably necessary in the interests of safety.
